January has only just begun, so if you haven’t made a New Year’s resolution yet, there is still time. If you have made a resolution or two, we hope you’ve stick with them at least this far. If you really want to succeed with your goals this year, here are a few tips on how to keep your New Year’s resolutions.

According to The New York Times, if you can keep your resolution through January, your odds have success go up. In addition, just the act of deciding to make specific improvements, will help you towards reaching that goal, as opposed to someone who hasn’t made a formal resolution.

 

One recent study has shown that our willpower plays a major role in whether or not we succeed with our personal goals. In the study, those with the best self-control, were those who used their willpower the least. This means, those people minimized their temptations and used their willpower beforehand so they didn’t have to fight off enticing things day after day. For example, if you’re trying to lose weight, get rid of all the junk food in your house. You don’t have to stop yourself from eating it if it’s not there.

 

Another tip is to set one clear goal. Don’t try to lose weight, save money, and quit smoking at the same time. You will burn through your willpower much faster, which will ultimately lead to failure.
